Pita Bread
Really simple pita bread recipe, for baking in an oven or on the grill. Slightly sweet and great freshly made.
Makes about 8.
Prep time of ~120 minutes; cook time of ~4 minutes each.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp yeast
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Steps
Mix flour, yeast, salt, sugar in mixing bowl.
Add olive oil and water, combining into a loose dough.
Knead by hand for ~10 minutes, or until smooth.
Place dough ball in oiled bowl, covered with a damp towel. Let rise for 60-90 minutes until doubled, depending on your temperature conditions.
Punch down dough and divide into 8 pieces. Let rest for 20 minutes.
Roll out each ball to ~1/8" thick. If it doesn’t strech well, let rest a bit.
Bake at 400 F for ~3 minutes total, flipping after ~2 minutes. On the grill, may take much less time. You’re looking for it to completely puff up before flipping.
Notes
Can add some garlic powder, but may require additional rising time.
